Generate Adaptability!

When I think about generators, I always think about making sure they’ve got enough fuel and aren’t running inside the house.  It wasn’t until I started researching them that I realized these miracles of modern technology are far more complicated than I’d imagined and that I was really glad I hadn’t just wandered into a random store hoping someone would know what I needed.  There’s nothing like carting something large home and discovering that I really have no idea how it works.

The thing is that homes and locales have different power outputs and requirements and if I want everything to work together, I need to make sure I have the right generator accessories.  For example, do I need a generator plug adaptor?  You know, those third prong plugs that not every house is equipped for?  And if I do, have I made sure I’m meeting the right power requirements?

What about a voltage converter or transfer switch?  None of this is all that complicated, but it is the difference between having a working generator and being very cold.

Making sure I have the right generator plug adapters is especially important when I’m traveling.  An RV generator plug or generator adapter may be all that stands between me and a cold dark night in an unfamiliar place.

I want to make sure I have my voltage converters, transfer switches, plug adapters and RV generator adapters in advance, which is why I’m doing my research now.  The time to realize I’ve missed something important is not when I’m trying to start the machine up and the hour, weather, geography or all three make it difficult to hunt down the missing item.  Many gas stations may be open 24 hours, but most will not have RV generator plugs.
